Wisdom teeth, the third molars, usually emerge between the ages of 17 and 25. If there is not enough space in the jaw, they may remain impacted, partially erupt, or put pressure on adjacent teeth.
First 24 hours: Apply ice to the extraction area, avoid hard and hot foods. Do not spit, support clot formation.
2-7 days: Consume soft foods. Mild swelling and bruising may be normal. You can gently rinse with warm salty water.
1-2 weeks: Stitches are removed or dissolve on their own. Gradually return to normal diet.
Dry socket is the most common complication. It occurs due to early dislodgement of the clot after extraction. Avoiding smoking and following the dentist's instructions minimize this risk.
